Christa Sonnier, E-RYT 200, RCYT
Workshop(s): Galactic Child Yoga (Outdoors: Ages 3-12) | Unwind (Restorative Yoga & Yoga Nidra: All Levels): Fire Stage
As a perpetual student of life, Christa Sonnier has always enjoyed the process of delving into mystery and exploring the questions of the heart. She feels that the practice of yoga beautifully includes these processes and can provide a map toward wholeness.
In 2007, Christa earned her 200 hour yoga certification with Laura Tyree at Dragonfly Yoga Studies in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and has been honored to continue her studies with Judith Lasater, Cora Wen, Doug Keller, and Erich Schiffmann. She is also certified in Sonia Sumar’s Yoga for the Special Child and specializes in teaching yoga for children with autism and ADHD. She enjoys introducing students to the restorative and therapeutic benefits of yoga, which includes working with those with injuries or physical limitations.
In her classes, Christa encourages her students to listen to the wisdom of their own body and breath and provides alignment and subtle energy cues to take them deeper into their individual experience. She believes a committed yoga practice can lead to greater self-awareness and opportunities for profound healing of body, mind and spirit.
In addition to teaching yoga, Christa has been working with children and families for over 16 years as a Montessori teacher and doula. In 2014, along with her business partner, Stacey Vann, she founded Galactic Child, a teacher training program for children’s yoga. She loves teaching children because they inspire and challenge her to see the world in new and unique ways. When working with children, she uses her intuition to uncover ways to help each child honor the unfolding of his or her true spirit. All of her children’s classes offer a combination of nurturing compassion, creativity, and spontaneity, and she never travels to a class without a “bag of tricks.”
Christa also enjoys working privately with clients to help them begin or deepen their yoga practice, recover from illness or injury, or explore opportunities for change and growth. She is also a certified life coach and intuitive healer and often combines these modalities with the yoga practice to help clients move through the transitions of life within a solid framework of support.
